On April 19th 2017 the MAELS (marsh avenue expeditionary learning school) students took a tour around the United Nations building in New York. We were welcomed by two members of the "mayors office for international affairs." (Issata and Emmerline) as they lead us to our tour guide. She discussed the history and back round of the UN and why it was established. We then learned about UNIcef a company in which helps refugee children as they also showed us a thing called "school in a box" which they send supplies to children in need so they have school supplies for the rest of the school year. We were also able to see the "General Assembly." as we all agreed that it was a remarkable thing to see as we got to stand by the podium and meet a ambassador and a commissioner for the mayors office of international affairs. As they talked to us some more about main points and concepts of the UN. Then we went into a classroom to learn more about UNIcef
